The Fairy Tales will take you on a soulful adventure!
Have you climbed vines grown strong and high from your own tended seed…to find you are about to be the dinner of the Giant…? Are you the one your Father traded for a coffer of gold? How do we flee the Witch…? Receive the Goose that Lays the Golden eggs? How do we get through the woods…find our Fairy GodMother…? Save our Sister? Our Brother… Ourselves…? How do we get Home? …to the Ball?
Learn who and where you are, and who you can become… within the ancient, image-rich tradition of the Fairy Tales!
Through “Wild Writing” our circle will explore and align our personal story with the natural world, our culture, and the thrumming depths of sacred, archetypal energies.
Our poetry and journaling assignments will explore, mirror and record this adventure of the deep, wild soul!
We’ll write, write, write, dive into a selection of poems to inspire and spur us to go deep, build altars, have a soulful task honoring these energies At the end, we will beautifully share our work, practice praise culture and walk the labyrinth of our story.
“Writing is a muscle. Smaller than a hamstring and slightly bigger than a bicep, and it needs to be exercised to get stronger” ~ Colin Nissan

Pick a fairy tale to work with. See details below. Please contact
Judyth at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need any support with this!
We begin with a good translation of the Grimm Bros. collection (I recommend Ralph Manheim’s from Anchor Books) or the Hans Christian Anderson collection, or the Andrew Lang collections.
Close your eyes, let anything, everything you know of the ancient stories come to you. Who is there?
Invite your story to come towards you: open the book at random and keep going with a strong and sweet desire. Trust the story’s wisdom to find you, since you will be, ultimately, deeply trusting your story’s wisdom!
Explore Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, The Handless Maiden, Hansel & Gretel, The Ugly Duckling, The Six Swans, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Goose Girl…Rapunzel…The Little Mermaid, Little Red Riding Hood, The Frog Prince, The Princess and the Pea…these are huge, intact stories. Find the story that pulls you, attracts you…for ANY reason…THAT IS YOUR STORY!!! Still wondering? Go online and look at fairy tales images…what pulls you…?
The Grimm brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob, collected these forever-told tales from the great Tellers of their time, in the early 1800’s, and called their collected volumes, “Nursery and Household Tales”. Household stories imply a household, a place where work is done, and finished…A time when day and night were different worlds. This is the world of wish, and dream and dare, of voyage and encounter, and a meeting always possible there with the fresh and new – that which has always been kith and kin to us – for haven’t we – always known?
Each of us will soon have before us, our chosen tale: Once Upon a ..There once was…A Queen had a daughter….Hard by a great forest… Long long ago…
So, let us now enter the Telling, with our all-hands-on-deck, eyes-and-ears-wide-open, alive and sensuous selves. We have begun! Our story’s magic is apace! Know, that by calling upon a story, you too will be called upon by your
story…especially in dream and in marvelous, inexplicable ways. You will be thrilled by the odd synchronicities as the details of your story arrive in your daily life!
Please acquire for yourself, a special journal, and prepare it… Shop – or otherwise – acquire your journal…do you like lined, blank or graph? Decorate your journal as your new Household…a home for your work!
Find images, pictures, postcards that call to you, that beckon with something you can barely understand yet: images from your story. Look for images, a tree, or garden…a landscape…an icon…a person…that feels to you as your guide, or guides for this work. Get textural (as in text!) spiraled yarns…pressed petals…Decorate the covers, front and back…the first pages…add wisdom quotes…Xerox’s of your favorite poems (so you can memorize them!). Read any good fortune cookies lately? Place the welcome mat out, set the table…. think color…joy…play! If you like to put dates on your writing – add the moon and her phase …. let Her be with you in your watching of her, and in your writing …it is your gift back to the night…and perhaps you will note a constellation or two… or learn a new one….!
Take serious delight in this project! You get to! It is your night job! And next, find a special, yummy feeling pen – slick ink to glide over smooth paper…get what you love! Get ready….
Begin to create a small shrine – an altar …Create a heartfelt space to hold the many wild gifts that will come to you, and the ones that in the gathering, feel fitting – like Cinderella’s shoes! Candles, a small handmade bowl of riverwater, feathers…goosedown…a handmade container with soil from anywhere that feels like your soul’s home:
whatever feels precious and right to you. A mirror, eyeshadow (!), a set of runes, beautiful scented incense, flowers, a tiny hill of salt, of beans, seeds, pictures, amber. Gather elements of your story: twelve tiny sets of shoes, a scrap of red velvet, a basket, a beautifully carved wolf. Candy! A goblet to hold a sip of wine, or any beverage that feels right, as an offering.
Let your writing time begin with an outer kindling: a few moments lighting the candles, tending…attending…letting your soul know… It is Time… Yipppeee! Crocuses pushing up through snow, willows greening, rivers stirring under ice, and us… ripening into Story!
